In 1693 Thomas Tew left Newport, Rhode Island, rounded the Cape of Good Hope, rested at Madagascar, and went hunting at the mouth of the Red Sea. The route got a name, the Pirate Round, and for the rest of the 1690s it was the trip everyone with a ship and bad intentions wanted to take.
