On 4 April 1581 Queen Elizabeth came to dinner aboard the Golden Hind at Deptford, a French envoy handled the sword on her behalf, and Francis Drake left the table as Sir Francis. Spain did not get the memo. To them he stayed El Draque, a pirate with excellent friends in London. Same man, two job titles.
