Pieces of Eight The Dollar Before the Dollar ~ Comfort Colors Tee

The Coin Pirates Chased Became the One in Your Pocket

The Spanish piece of eight is the coin every pirate story counts in. When the United States set up its currency in 1792 it modeled the dollar on that coin, and the Spanish original stayed legal tender in America until 1857. Your paycheck has pirate ancestry.

• For the one with the coin folder: A gift for the collector who checks change for silver, the history buff who knows what a real is, and the kid who grew up hunting for doubloons in the sandbox.
• Legal tender, surprisingly long: A foreign coin spent legally in the United States until 1857, longer than most gift cards last.
• Minted for: Part of Pirate History & Legends, where the treasure chest turns out to be the origin of payday.
