Grog Watered Down Rum Admiral Vernon 1740 ~ Comfort Colors Tee

Watered the Rum ~ Named the Drink After His Coat

In 1740 Admiral Vernon ordered his sailors' rum cut with water, and the navy followed. The men called him Old Grog after the grogram cloak he wore on deck, and the drink took the nickname. So the sailors' drink is named after a man ruining the good stuff while wearing a weatherproof coat.

• For the one who takes rum seriously: Buy it for the tiki bar friend, the navy veteran, and the uncle who considers a mixer a personal insult.
• Innovation, unwelcome: He made the ration go further, the crew got a nickname out of it, and nobody has thanked him since.
• Poured out by: Part of Pirate History & Legends, where even the cocktail has a service record.
