A General History of the Pyrates ~ Comfort Colors Tee

The Famous Book With an Unknown Author

Librarians keep a special shelf for books everyone quotes and a special sigh for the ones whose author remains a question mark. This one earns both. For the reader who loves a mystery about the mystery, the teacher who assigns primary sources, and the bibliophile who prefers the 1724 spelling.

• The Verified Bit: A General History of the Pyrates was published in London in 1724 under the name Captain Charles Johnson; the author's identity is unresolved, and the once-popular Defoe attribution is now widely doubted.
• Librarian Gift: National Library Week, retirement, or the day the overdue fines are finally forgiven.
• Our Addition: Some of It Even True is commentary, offered with affection.
